Exploring Sitges
Take A Stroll Along The Passeig Maritim de Sitges
What is the best way to get an introduction to Sitges? Take a leisurely stroll along the picturesque Passeig Maritim de Sitges, a pedestrian-only promenade running several kilometers along the coastline. Lined with beautiful palm trees, cozy cafes, inviting boutiques and amazing views of the Mediterranean Sea, we found ourselves constantly returning not only for great tapa bars, but for access to the best beaches as well.

Stop At The Monument to Facundo Bacardí
As we walked along the promenade,we came across this large circular sculpture with two raised hands and the figure of a bat. We learned the sculpture was created by the Italian artist, Lorenzo Quinn, as a monument to the Sitges-born Don Facundo Bacardi Massó, creator of the iconic and wildly popular Bacardi Rum. And, the bat? It’s Bacardi’s famous logo.

Visit The Museu del Cau Ferrat

In 1933, he gave the house to the city of Sitges on the condition that it would be turned into a museum. Today, the Museu del Can Ferrat contains works by internationally acclaimed artists including Pablo Picasso as well as Rusiñol’s vast collection of ironwork, glassware and ceramics. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday,

Church of Sant Bartomeu & Santa Tecla
Perched on a hill overlooking the Passeig Maritim and Mediterranean Sea, the iconic Church of Sant Bartomeu & Santa Tecla offers breathtaking views of the entire coastline. Dating from 1672, its Baroque architecture and Bell Tower make it instantly recognizable.

Where We Stayed
We were fortunate to be guests at the luxurious Sitges Hotel Sabatic. Part of Marriott’s Premium Autograph Collection, this 90-room, all suite property boasts two pools (a kids pool located a level below the adult-only pool), a gym staffed with personal trainers, a spa, the Sabàtic’s Pasatempo restaurant and beautiful outdoor seating. Although not located directly on the seafront (it is a 15-minute walk into town), the hotel does make a shuttle available, or you can choose to use one of the bicycles provided by the hotel for a scenic ride into town.

As we walked into the lobby, we felt as if we were opening an issue of Architectural Digest. The contemporary furnishings, neutral colors, and natural materials accentuated by kentia palms invoked an understated elegance. From the time we arrived to our departure, the hotel’s staff provided the highest level of service, friendliness and were more than accomodating.

We were really struck by the size of the suites, the smallest of which is 45m2 (485 sqft) each featuring a separate living room, dining area and ocean-facing balcony or terrace. The decor continues the same zen-like aesthetics seen throughout the hotel; neutral colors, contemporary furnishings, and stylish detailing.
Our terraced suite had a wonderful panoramic view of the town of Sitges and the Mediterranean. The outdoor sofa and table surrounded by lush foliage provided privacy while a private pathway led directly to the adults-only pool and bar. The room amenities included a Marshall speaker with ready-made playlists, a turntable with complementary vinyls, a yoga mat, resistance bands, and foam rollers.

Sitges is an unforgettable travel experience. If you are looking for a vacation filled with fun, a little different, and with a great vibe, plan a trip to Sitges!
